BARCELONA/LONDON, (17th June 2024) — AUTODERM is a research backed Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), using artificial intelligence (AI) in dermatology. In May, 18359 skin ailments were analysed, it found 80 possible melanomas, 95 squamous cell carcinomas and 202 basal cell carcinomas, via the integration in the myGP app by iPlato.

Eighty possible melanomas were found that represent 2-3 malignant melanomas per day. According to a report by Cancer Research UK, 46 melanomas are diagnosed on a daily basis in the UK. The 80 melanomas represent about 5% of the number of melanomas found in the UK on a monthly basis.
Since its integration into the myGP app, AUTODERM has scanned over 370,000 mobile phone skin images. On average, around 500-600 individuals use the skin scanner daily, highlighting its popularity.

The AI engine is designed to deliver high accuracy in its assessments, providing users with quick and reliable results. This efficiency is crucial for early detection and timely intervention, which can significantly improve patient outcomes. The AI model has been researched in a clinical GP setting and the results published in Nature. The accuracy was on par with experienced GPs, but it was not as good as a tele-dermatologist. However a GP with the aid of AUTODERM as a decision support tool could have prevented 34% referrals to a dermatologist and it helped the GP diagnose patients correctly in 60% of the skin disease cases.
