About us

Built for the platforms. Designed for the people.

Our vision

Skin health for every skin, everywhere: every condition, every skin tone, every age, delivered in seconds, anytime.

Our mission

To give healthcare platforms the AI infrastructure to bring clinically validated, skin-tone inclusive dermatology support to every user they serve.

What we do

We build the AI layer that helps healthcare platforms give every user fast access to authoritative skin health information, and a clear next step. We are not a patient-facing app. We are the engine inside the apps that are.

Our story

Autoderm began with a simple, stubborn problem: there are not enough dermatologists anywhere on earth and the cost of that gap is far more than skin-deep.

Our founder, Dr. Alexander Börve, has worked in digital dermatology since 2006, back when "taking a photo and sending it to a doctor" was possible with “dumb phones”, not a feature on your smartphone. As a physician, he kept running into the same wall: there are only around 150,000 dermatologists on the entire planet, and no country has enough.¹ The United Kingdom has roughly 750 for 68 million people. Germany, one of the best-resourced systems in the world, has about 6,000 and still has waiting lists. The United States has around 12,000, unevenly spread, with rural patients waiting months. Malaysia has about 84. Kenya, around 100. From London to Nairobi, the story is the same: someone notices a spot, a rash, a mole that's changed, and the answer is out of reach, behind a months-long wait, a paywall, or simply absent. More than half the global population isn't covered by essential health services at all.¹ Skin is where medicine is most universally short-handed.

What that looks like in practice

A user opens a pharmacy website, a telemedicine app, or a GP triage tool. They upload a photo of a skin concern. In under one second, the platform returns an informational condition suggestion across 70+ conditions in six clinical categories, with a confidence level and a recommended care pathway. The output is visible immediately. A clinician reviews before any clinical decision is made. The platform defines the care pathway from there.

The evidence

The science behind the suggestion

Five peer-reviewed publications. Six countries. Over two million API calls processed since 2018 with no adverse events recorded across MHRA, BfArM, or FDA databases.
In a 2024 randomised UK GP reader study, AI-assisted GPs achieved 69% top-1 accuracy against 48% without AI support. Dermatology referrals fell by 40%. Every GP in the study said they would use it in clinical practice.
In an independent validation across six Spanish primary care centres (Escalé-Besa et al., Nature Scientific Reports, 2023), 92% of GPs rated the tool a useful decision support tool and 34% of dermatology referrals were identified as potentially avoidable.
